Super Baby Bedroom!!

When I found out that our first child was going to be a baby boy -one who would break the curse of a male deprived family, I was ecstatic! I wasn't worried about clothes, toys, or car seats. We already had all of that lined up. No- I wanted to give my son something that he could enjoy for the majority of his many years in that room to come. What does a little boy (as well as his daddy) love more than Super Heroes and Villains?? So with a contemplative moment and inspiration, I formulated a unique idea! I was going to strip down my unborn son's room, and give it a complete makeover with a dash Marvel, Star Wars, DC characters, and the sport that I love. With that idea, I set out, made plans, and went to work! The first phase of any home construction project, is to me the easiest, and the most enjoyable. The demolition. I tore out all the old tattered baseboard, door jambs, and trims. I took out the door, hideous rolling closet doors, and any other thing in the room I deemed as unnecessary or outdated.

After the demolition phase was completed, I set out with phase two -painting. My least favorite part of all home construction projects. The seemingly miles of tape, the sticky protective plastic sheeting, the corners, oh the horror. Although the process to me is completely boring, I do love the finished product. The newly painted sky blue walls (a color which I had received approval to use by my wife, of course) were beautiful and would serve perfectly for the theme of the room I had previously chosen. The paint on the walls and ceiling were complete, but the most difficult painting part, also the most exciting part, was yet to be performed. With a fair amount of bribery, my extremely artistically talented sister-in-law kelly agreed to help my dream come true.

After days and evenings of countless hours, after lots of free handing, blending and perfecting, Kelly's masterpiece had finally come to life. It was beautiful. Everything I had hoped for. This is not the first project Kelly and I have done together, but I knew based off of previous experience that I could count on her. The characters she painted came to life and provided entertainment, a story, a conflict, and a resolution. You could lay back and watch the scenes unfold in your mind for hours, letting your imagination run wild. well- at least I have.

However entrancing the artwork, there was still work to be done. I set out and installed the new door jambs with trim. I put back in the window moldings, I installed crown molding, I worked until all the pieces of the puzzle had satisfactorily come together, and created something that I could be proud of, something that my son could one day love and appreciate.
